Explore fixture layouts and compare lighting options in 24 indoor, outdoor and residential scenes. The built-in catalog includes 77 JC-LGL products with 167 wattage/specification choices, plus illustrative residential fixtures.

Space dimensions and fixture positions use feet (ft). Illuminance uses lux (lx), light output uses lumens (lm), power uses watts (W) or kilowatts (kW), and color temperature uses kelvin (K).

Click ? beside Space & Fixtures to open this guide in the studio. Click Close or press Esc to return to your plan.

1. Try an office layout

  1. Under Space Settings → Scene, select Office.
  2. Enter Width 40 ft, Depth 60 ft and Height 10 ft. Press Enter or leave each field to apply it.
  3. Under Scene Fixtures, click Clear All to remove the starting fixtures. Export the existing plan first if you want to keep it.
  4. Keep Product Range → Recommended for This Scene, then select Fixture Category → Panel Lights.
  5. Choose a Product Model and Wattage / Specification with a published lumen value.
  6. Set Quantity to 12, then click Add Fixtures.
  7. Select Top, adjust the layout, and click Heatmap to inspect the estimated ground illuminance.
  8. Click Export Plan to save your work.

This example demonstrates the controls. Twelve fixtures are not a recommendation or a guarantee that the office meets a lighting requirement.

2. Choose a scene and fixtures

Select a scene that resembles your space, then enter its dimensions. Outdoor scenes use Max. H for the upper fixture-height limit. Individual mounting heights are set with Y.

Use Recommended for This Scene to browse suggested fixture categories. Select All JC-LGL Fixtures to browse the wider catalog. Choose the category, model, specification and quantity before clicking Add Fixtures.

Each scene supports a maximum of 100 fixtures or kits, including those already present. Multiple additions receive an initial layout that you can adjust. A string-light or multi-head kit counts as one entry; its total output is represented by an equivalent source.

Use View Product and Product Specification Notes to check the source specifications. Catalog availability is a snapshot; confirm current options and stock on the product page.

3. Move fixtures and change the view

Dragging changes X and Z while height stays fixed. Enter precise coordinates under Position, or change Y — Height to raise or lower the selected fixture. Coordinates are measured from the center of the ground; negative X/Z values place a fixture on the opposite side. Movement stays within the space boundaries.

Grid shows or hides the reference grid.

4. Adjust light output and direction

Select a fixture and use Light Properties:

  • Dimming: adjust output from 0–100%.
  • Rated Lumens: adjust the slider to the fixture's rated light output.
  • Rated Wattage: enter its rated electrical power.
  • Color Temp.: choose warmer or cooler light.
  • Beam Angle: when available, adjust the beam's spread.
  • Tilt: aim away from straight down; 0° points down.
  • Rotation: change the direction around the vertical axis. Its effect is easiest to see with a tilted fixture.

Edits to product specifications are marked Custom. Check that the actual product supports your chosen settings. Relax, Reading and Focus apply color-temperature and dimming presets to all fixtures and turn them on.

Use a fixture's on/off control, All On or All Off to compare contributions. Remove Fixture deletes the selection; Clear All removes every fixture in the current scene.

5. Read the results

Heatmap colors show estimated ground illuminance. Read the numeric legend each time: its scale can change with the plan. Average Lux and Min / Max Lux summarize the ground; Est. Power summarizes estimated electrical power; Active Fixtures counts enabled fixtures with positive output.

If lumens are unknown, adjust Rated Lumens to a verified value. A fixture with zero lumens contributes no illuminance. If wattage is unknown, fill in Rated Wattage; until then, power shows a known-value subtotal. Read notes about missing or conflicting specifications before comparing products.

6. Save and continue

  • Export Plan: downloads an editable JSON plan for the current scene.
  • Open Plan: restores a saved JSON plan, including supported older LUMA plans.
  • Export Image — the camera icon: downloads the current 3D view as a PNG image.

Switching scenes retains edits during the current session. Refreshing or closing the page can lose unsaved work. Export each scene you want to keep separately. Reopen the JSON to continue editing.

Understanding the preview

All fixtures contribute to simplified direct-light estimates. The preview does not include verified IES photometry, obstruction shadows, reflections or daylight. Ground readings do not represent desk-height measurements. Screen color is approximate, and scene suggestions do not establish hazardous-location suitability or code compliance. Use the simulator to compare layouts; obtain a professional lighting design for engineering approval.
